<< Good points, but the situation is more like Mercedes integrating the trailer hitch and electrical connections into the car, then offering a free trailer. The 'Ad' can be covered up or removed once you leave the lot. You can use anyone else's trailer but the one from Mercedes is free. Maybe you want to use someone else's free trailer, or buy a different model trailer, that's up to you. >>

It's more like them selling you the car that only receives radio stations for that make of car. After gaining a critical level of market share, who would dare try and broadcast radio to a Toyota? At that point, buying a Toyota is pointless, regardless of quality.

The average consumer is scared to do anything but just drive the thing. You face the possibility being left out in the cold.

Good response. The question for the courts will be whether a monopoly may do that under antitrust law, when getting customers to use Mercedes trailers harms other trailer makers and chills the market for other add-ons.

JMHO.
