Hi Veritas - a slow enough day to talk of grammar

I hope that you would agree that News releases should not contain grammatical or factual errors. In that one paragraph alone that I referred to from the 8 June News there were four errors - even that of I.C.I.'s name! Is that acceptable - I don't think so at all. No - I'm not bugged at "everyone's" grammar - just that in the News release(s). I also referred to my over use of dashes in my posts :-)

To respond to your point: there is typically more than one candidate per position advertised - therefore more than one curriculum vitae - which makes for a pile of one page curricula vitae - or a pile of curricula vitarum - or as you say two (+) curricula vitae - sitting on my desk. A number of these contain even simple errors - and all go into my trash can :-(

You bring up data and datum - yes another 'problem area'. I also offer 'done good' instead of 'did well' - there are many others. Here's another set of very common errors: Mr., Mrs. and Dr. instead of Mr, Mrs and Dr - the period signifies a truncation whereas the last letter in each of these three contractions is the last letter of the full word - so it's incorrect to use the period. In the case of truncating Professor to Prof. - it is correct to use the period there.

What are the chances of the revised web site coming up before next week? I offer - nil :-(

In any case - another slow day on the ticker - still holding nicely at $2+.

David :-)
