Teri, [edited] you said >people love the Nifty-Fifty. This is a narrow market.<<

Amen to that! Here's what I think is the thought process:
"The market [meaning the indexes] is too high, so I must
switch my $$$ into 'safe haven' stocks".
Those stocks are part of an index, so "now the market is
even higher."

There's no disputing that actual fundamentals have not
improved. Remember how a year ago many predicted $4
earnings in 1998? It will be interesting to see how
close AMAT comes to Soundview's $0.98 for 1999.

Maybe one of us should start saving estimates to chart
monthly. Yahoo does some historic comparison, but only
for the last 90 days...

look for "consensus EPS trend".

Mark Oliver reports from the San Jose SR show that MS
plans bundling a speech recognition program with Office
by fall. I think that's good news, as it will boost
demand for storage and other stuff.

Teri,

On this day in 1987, the long bond yielded 9.6%. Today it is about 40% lower.

If the long bond was that high now, the dow would be below 5000, imo.
