Progress on FAA appropriations, from the Washington Post:

"House Passes Transportation Bill

"The House passed a $46.9 billion transportation spending bill early
yesterday that provides a big boost in highway money, increases funding
for aviation improvements and backs Amtrak in its recovery plan.

"Coming in the wake of a $203 billion long-term highway and mass transit
bill signed into law in June, the bill boosts highway spending next year by
almost 20 percent, to $25.5 billion. Mass transit spending is also up more
than $500 million, to $5.4 billion. The House and Senate will now meet to
work out differences."

I'm trying to find the bill text.

Don't think I got an answer to any of my original questions, but what the heck.

I don't see how pushing biometric information through a phone line, or over the Internet, is any different that any other type of network situation. You have to decide where you enroll users, where you will store their bio-ID, and where you will perform the matching. You obviously have to ensure security through each step of the process, regardless of where it takes place.

How is a Oracle database any more open than a domain based Windows NT
network? Identix alliance with Oracle leaves out most of the worlds
data which is stored on IBM.

Nevertheless, why can't Identix communicate their vision with a
whitepaper? Its totally inexusable not to have one.

Take a look at stock charts of other narrowly focused public security
related companies:

Verisign (VRSN)
Security Dynamics (SDTI)
Checkpoint (CHKPF)

Notice a trend here? There even seems to be doubt whether a total
security solutions company like Network Associates can prosper.

Biometrics is just one aspect of security like encryption,
certificates, firewalls, intrusion detection, etc. Frankly, I don't
understand why the software algorithms developed by a finger sensor
manufacturer like Veridicom can't do the job. They could imbed all
the necessary functions in silicon.
