CORP. / Hurricane Hydrocarbons Oil Pricing Update

HURRICANE HYDROCARBONS LTD. PRICING UPDATE

CALGARY, July 30 /CNW/ - Hurricane announced today that, after lengthy
negotiations with Shymkent refinery, the price to be paid for July sales of
crude oil is US$62 per tonne. The negotiated price for the month of June was
US$70 per tonne.

The July sales price of US$62 per tonne (US$8.14 per barrel) equates to
US$6.95 per barrel net of value added tax (VAT). This compares to a per
barrel price of US$9.09 (net of VAT) for the three months ended March 31,
1998. The average realized price for that same quarter was US$10.96 per
barrel. Average realized price is net of VAT but includes sales of refined
products which are, on average, priced higher than crude oil.

The company is negotiating with regards to export opportunities which
will diversify Hurricane's market and allow for continued increases in total
sales volumes. The company's transshipment terminal, at the Chinese border
point of Druzhba, is expected to begin exporting crude in the fourth quarter
of 1998. The company is also considering a deferral of part of its 1998
capital budget.

Hurricane is an independent international energy corporation engaged in
the acquisition, exploration and production of oil, primarily in the Republic
of Kazakhstan.

Hurricane is listed on the Toronto (TSE) and Alberta (ASE) stock
exchanges under the trading symbol HHL.A and on Nasdaq under the symbol HHLAF.
Hurricane is a member of the TSE 300 and TSE 200 composite indices.
