thanx... too bad for meriwether that scholes, the late black, and the rest of the nerds couldn't keep up the performance the last two years for LTCM (up 17% in '97, down 16% ytd '98).

i respect meriwether from his salomon days (i loved Liar's Poker) and thought he was the scapegoat on the whole treasury bidding scandal (extra points: name the salomon trader who was bid riggin)...

in retrospect, it was good that he left salomon before it really fell apart ... of course, one could argue that salomon was on the way down after they ran lewie ranieri out...

the only justice there was that ceo john geutfriend didn't get a dime when his carcass was jettisoned (maybe the arbitrage board gave him a dollar...but the point is he didn't get the $50+ mill he wanted nor the $30 mill they offered him)...

anyway, bad times for the bond arb biz (markets have gotten more and more efficient)... salomon closed down their desk...

out of nowhere... has anyone here read Michael Lewis' "Trail Fever"... I have not, but would like to get someone's opin on this one

T-2 hours till miller time...

TD the MPT geeks had to be from Chicago. They are the ones who never understood that when you took a random walk, you'd better not run into Al Capone. -g- Stanford, Berkeley, Wharton, and MIT also had their share of these refugees from underfunded statistics departments.
