Dave,

>>>>>> Are we near the bottom of a downturn or are we entering an honest-to-God bear market? <<<<<<<<

Feel very negative towards this market, however we still need confirmation that we are actually in a BEAR MARKET. We need to see break of the 8750 support line first, which at this time do not feel will hold. Then its the crucial 8570 support, and at this time feel it will also be broken down the road.

Several months ago I had indicated the 7700-7800 range could be reached and over the last 2 weeks I am getting technical signals that the probability of that happening is increasing. I am not trying to hype a bear market but say that we need confirmations first.

Even if the market rallys next week, which it should, the longer trend is to greater downside. What needs to happen to reverse this downside momentum is a dramatic improvement in the market internals and for the market to set new highs, and it needs to be done soon, say within weeks, which I seriously doubt. My contention is that if the market does not immediately reverse to NEW HIGHS then we will be establishing lower lows, which now has extremely strong probability.

The weakest sector is the HiTECHers. Just noticed with todays performance it dipped below the previous low of a few days ago. Another bad technical signal.

Seeya

dave,

The general opinion on this thread seems
to be bullish.

The Contrarians are made up of a group
of guys Greenspan, Soros, and me.

The Bulls are made up of many people
who are like:

Space Alien post54930498: I just got my
Ameritrade account and dude, I am gonna buy
100 shares of Yahoo! and make a million dollars
by Christmas so I can pay off my Chase Visa.

What the hell, I ceased understanding this market
sometime during 1995. I think you could just
throw the dice and you will have about a 50-50
chance of being right.
