Subject: internet sales? we're just seeing the beginning...

I just got off the phone with a DELL tech rep. Three weeks ago I bought another DELL laptop. I had a question this morning so I call and punched in my Express Service Code to ask a question. No record of my code. Hmmm...

So when the live guy got on the phone (less than 3 minutes), I told him my ESC was wrong. He said it wasn't wrong. It usually takes a week to post the ESC to the system. But, this summer, demand for systems has been stronger than any summer in the last 7 years (his term of employment). On top of which, he said he internet sales have been so strong he sees up to a 4 week delay in posting these codes. Frankly, he sounded, even as a long term Dell
employee, rather amazed at the volume of sales. And for me, just as long as tech support is unaffected and is able to respond quickly, this ESC delay is one I'm very happy to hear about.

Read into what you will. But I ended the conversation, I asked him if Dell was gonna post strong quarterly earnings on Aug. 17. He laughed and simply said, "I think so."

I hope your kidding .,..

Your logic may be that if Dell beats estimates by ONLY .01 cent, the bottom falls out of Dell and the Naz big caps and thereby causing money flows into smaller names. Is this your premise??

If we (Dell) beat street estimates by anything less than .03 to.05 cents, major trouble could ensue UNLESS our forward assessment of 3rd and 4th quarter business is absolutely stellar.

I predict .51 to .53 cents for the current quarter, ASP's offset by lower parts costs, and a very positive outlook for remainder of year.
