< Caution. The decline looks like professional shorting to me. They are psychological terrorists. For example, three MMs align. #1 sits just below the previous day's high and absorbs all buy orders. As soon as buy arders are all filled, #2 sells stock to #3 at the bid. #3 quickly lowers the bid and sells at the lower bid to #2. Meanwhile, #1 is sitting above absorbing any real buy orders that come in. The resulting pattern is lower highs, lower lows and lower closes - a bad techical chart. Then they take some profits (covering) knowing the stock will pop up. Once up, they try to drive it down again, creating crushed hopes and a selling climax. Knowing what to watch for reduces the terror they try to engender.>

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. I love this company, but don't want to be part of these stock price machinations. I'm sitting on the sideline right now. Going up to the northwest for a few weeks.

Maintaining position ... but NOT increasing ...yet. Will start accumulating (again). When dust settles.

Cheryl

Karl,

I don't disagree entirely with you.
Although it really is impossible to say for sure.
However the precondition for such shorting to be successful is that the stock be weak to begin with.

And Tava has been weak since May.

On a fundamental level it's weak because Tava disappointed last quarter.
And weak because that was four qtrs in a row that Tava disappointed.
It's weak because estimates for the 4th quarter were substantially downgraded and because CD sales were admitted to be disappointing.
Disappointing earnings and estimate downgrades raises the fear that they will disappoint again and usually = downward stock price.

Add to that the following technical milestones.

- The failure to break through the old high after earnings.
- The failure to respond to the nms listing.
- The failure to respond to the road show.
- Monster seller in May after earnings.
- Poor and continuously deteroriating response to pr. over the last month. This is what broke the back of the stock in my opinion.
The last 2 or 3 press releases in particular.
When the stock failed to respond a week ago Monday when the stock was around 9 3/8, I considered that a sure sign that 9 3/8 was now the upper limit and that we were headed back to the 8's. And when the stock failed to respond last Thursday to a press release when we were at 8 3/8 I considered that a sure sign that 8 3/8 was now the new upper limit and that we were headed for the 7's. Once in the 7 range we were in dangerous territory because lots of people were beginning to start heading into the red and this was even more true in the 6's and 5's. I suspect a lot of these long time holders sold creating the avalanche that drove us down to 5 1/4.

I don't think there is any question that shorts have helped drive the stock down. But it doesn't necessarily take that much.
Sometimes just the straw that breaks the camel's back.
For example 8 appears to have been a critical support level.
All the shorts had to was recognize weakness at 8 3/8 and just pile on enough to drive the stock below 8 and then stops probably did the rest of the work.

You may be right to be cautious.

My own judgement is that today was a great day to buy and hold - of course I didn't have the guts to do it.
And then just wait and see if Tava can continue the momentum to the upside. Put a stop in to protect the downside and get out the next time we close down for a day.

Obviously the shorts are going to be watching too.
Some will be guessing the top as we go up.
Others will be waiting for the top and once it's obvious we're there they will be right back in.

However if Tava fails to rally much further that should not be blamed solely on the shorts. It would clearly indicate a lack of conviction by longs - even at these lower levels.

You still don't get it do you Karl. And the rest of the herd haven't a clue.
Do you honestly believe that MM's are going to align against a company that has the potential (or seemingly potential) to take them out in one fell swoop??
Although your theory is correct, your logic is base.
It's been awhile since I've come across this thread since retiring.
But I have to tell you, This thread reminds me of when I went into the marines, Parris Island. I remember when ppl. screwed up they where sent to Motivation Platoon. Mot. Plat. consisted of moving one pile of sand to another pile, then crawling thru whatever to replace the sand in the same place.
It has been a year since this thread started by my friend $Bill and several others, and after coming back to read some of this thread and to see how high TAVA went, and to my horror discovered that many haven't a Clue what a Stop Loss is puts me in a state of near death.
You are moving Piles of Sand. Think about it.
This is not just to you Karl, it's to the whole bunch.
What the hell is wrong with you ppl.??
You took a 200% gain and canned it???
Which part am I missing???
I've seen ppl. here slaughter Wexler and Mr. Pink.
Maybe they should be.
But it's not Wexler and Pink that is the Blame, It's YOU.
I don't know wexler, but I have seen Pink from time to time, and if there was a handfull of ppl. on this SI Threads anywhere Pink would be in the handful, and I do mean handfull of ppl. I would trust.
This is not an endorsement for Mr. Pink.
It is an endorsement for people to Think!!!!
Lead!!! Don't Follow!!!
Reasearch is a bitch, It takes time, TAKE IT, doesn't matter if your a day trader (as I was) or a long termer.
If you don't, the only ppl. that are going to make money are the Houses you trade thru.
Oh you may hit a few, but in the end you will blow away like Leaves in the fall.

Don't move Sand, (ie:rehashing the same ole sh*t). Get on with making some money!!!

Karl,

Isn't that called staging? Isn't that illegal??

Of course, the problem is proving it. That is why Level II can be so useful for trading analysis.

Regarsds,

Ron

PS: And btw, no I'm casting around for a conspiracy theory. Markets do what they and prices go to levels where buying outweighs selling.

In this game perception + money = power to control stock price.

Karl,

They were lowering the posted bid/ask on buying at one point this morning, I almost called Nasdaq compliance until shortly thereafter the buys overtook and it started moving up. I was not about to sit back and watch that go any further especially with TAVA sitting here at critical support.

I am not ready to assume that the seller/sellers is quite done yet until a couple more days of trading goes by. Friday's I don't think are a good day to judge that type of activity. But it looks like we have support Houston!
