(New X) for Peoplemarks

Len says "I fail to see the difference. When it's a thread I bookmarked, it takes me to the "correct" post, which, as you say, is the first one unread by ME."

Let's try this again.... What David is saying is that there isn't an obvious way to program this one, without adding an additional link.

Suppose that David is peoplemarked by you, and has (3 NEW) postings. You click on the red stuff, and are taken to the oldest of the 3. That's the feature you want, right? But, once you're there, there isn't a way to get you to the other two, nor is there an easy way to figure out whether you've seen them... for SI to remember would mean that it would have to remember EVERY posting you read, which would slow it down too much, and take up a lot of storage besides, just to make this feature work. So it doesn't.

David agrees that this is the problem... he says it nicely in the next post.

I suppose it could (Brad-- here's another feature possibility!) work if there were another link at every posting, pointing to the next link by that same poster. I, for one, wouldn't follow those links very much, but they would do for this. And they could be done with the addition of only one more reference per item, or whatever mechanism already exists to build the recent postings for the peoplemark.

Dick

Okay, I'm with you. I guess my question is, what happens after you go to their first post?

>>How is the list of their posts on their profile page any different than the list of posts in any one thread.

Once you are on their first unread message, you've changed your frame of reference to the ordinal thread sequence. Next, previous, replied to, and replies to are all relative to that message, not other message by that user.

Are you looking to be able to scan through a users new messages? I guess it could be done (easy for me to say), but keeping track of your position could get difficult if you were to follow other tangents. I wonder how many people would use that functionality if available.
