Because unlike most earnings months for Apple, this time the third Friday of the month is "late" in the period. Ie, we can get a nice iMac boost before options expiration has a shot to drag us down.

Marc,

I agree with you, if we get past Monday without a crash.

Certainly one thing that supports an Apple uptrend is the divergence today between the RSI and the share price, as well as the Volume on the 5-min chart:

The RSI stayed relatively flat all day while the share price declined. This occurred on light volume after the opening selloff, followed by a strong pickup at the close. The later could have been a mild panic selloff--hard to tell. The flat RSI bodes well for the stock next week, and if we do not crash, Apple should recover nicely.

My newly created position [before the last tank <:(] depends on it,

Sam

Marc: "Dennis, good luck with your strategy. If the market starts looking for value, Apple has a shot to go up while the overall market is down." AAPL has been tracking the Nasdaq movement ever since we hit $30.00 and has continued the past three weeks. IMHO, if the market tanks it's going to drag down AAPL with it and a lot of other good stocks. Just my 2› worth...

Actually, Marc,

October is even worse that you mentioned in your
post. Expiry is on the 16th, the day after earnings. Needless
to say, I don't want to be holding any Oct calls that day, regardless
of how I expect AAPL to perform for the quarter. Should be moved
out into further calls by then.

-Bruce.
P.S. Just proofread this post before posting, the spellchecker doesn't
know the word "expiry"? They've got to be kidding. :-)
P.P.S. In spellchecking the above message, I discovered that the
spellchecker doesn't know the word "spellchecker", so that obviously
explains the lack of "expiry." Just a little, serendipitous humor
to lighten the day we had.
