Hi Tincan Sailor,
Thanks for your explanation..

I am fully aware of the conversion procedure you mentioned.

My question was how trades happen on decimal points that do not have an exact 1/64th value..

Well, I guess I know the answer now, and that is:
1- Some of the companies allow decimal trading in addition to 1/64,1/16 etc..
2 - Quotes usually truncate the fractions at the end of the quote or round them up or down..

Thank you again for the answer, same goes to all that participated in sharing their ideas and answers to my request..

Best regards to all
TMK
P.S. I have a feeling that we will be in the, if not 3 digit, 2 digits sooner than we all predicted..

You are correct. The industry does leave off several of the fractional numbers when stocks trade in 1/16ths and 32nds, 64ths and 128ths.

On the real low price stocks the prices are in mills, i.e. 0.0123bid/0.0125ofr.
fractionally the breakdown is as you exampled:

1/16 = 0.06125
1/32 = 0.03125
1/64 = 0.015625
1/128 = 0.0078125

You won't see these extensions on either your confirmation or statement; you will see either the fraction or a $ and/or cent figure.

Most brokerage firms will permit you to put in your order with a specific price figure,e.g. .42 or .275. It really all depends on how the stock is being actively traded and your best source of information there is a review of the time and sales for a particular issue. If it is trading only in fractions, then orders are in fractions, but don't be hesitant to split the difference, for example quote is 7/16 to 1/2. It's your money so enter you buy or sell at 15/32. You never know when some MM will accommodate you. Same goes for issues trading in pennies.

If you have any other questions I will try to be of assistance.
