I would recommend, for a long term investor, to use a reputable phone based broker, just in case you *really* need to get in or out quickly someday. If this doesn't concern you Datek would be fine.

Good Luck

If you're in for the long term you won't need the only thing Datek offers of value, the "cheap" trades.
Anyway what is "cheap" trades worth when you lose thousinds on slow executions or the website being unavailable - both of which happens regularly.

James,

It won't be too long, after you join Datek, and begin to see for yourself how easy it is to trade in and out of stocks. Your thoughts about long term holdings may change.... You may come to the Dark Side!

PS: They are great to send in your money, and then place limit orders on buying and selling stocks. If the market ever really collapses, you probably will not ever see your money again from any of the online discount brokerage houses.
