I don't agree with theory that LU and T are in cahoots. AT&T buys a lot of equipment from sources other than LU. The world has changed a lot since T spun off LU (for one, the spawn of T is now bigger than T itself). AT&T has to act in its own self-interest, and I believe that it does. I'm willing to believe their stated intentions: It makes little sense for T to buy an 16 channel system when LU and CIEN will have 80 and 96 channel systems this fall. At most, the whispering in the ear is LU telling T that the 80 channel system is not vaporware, and T has decided use this info to drive prices down.
