Marty,

<<Any chance that this cash rich company would want to acquire a head manufacturer with cutting edge GMR technology and a few management problems? >>

This is not at all far fetched and even has precedent at Seagate. They acquired a company called Grenex which was a sputtered thin-film media company after three years of trying and failing to start up their own thin film media manufacturing. Ultimately, when that didn't work so well either, they bought Conner, primarily for the thin film media operation which was valued at $800 million of the total $1.2B the bankers had put on the company.

However, I suspect they have something else up their sleeve frankly.

Best,
Stitch
