Having initially gotten my first shares in ASND via the Cascade merger I have to think part of Friday's debacle was due to the fact that ASND was just getting over the merger integration problems and the street is concerned that another merger would dunk the stock. This is aside from what apparently are questions regarding the fit of Ascend with Stratus. IMHO $7.00 immediate decline was unwarranted reaction; there was an awful lot of puts, and Monday should show a correction. However, the market short term presently punishes companies which do not maintain the level of earnings growth or about which there is the slightest question. Regardless of the near term impact, management has to do what it thinks is best for its business development long term and forget how the street views the situation. In response to some posts questioning the motove, I do not believe that management would merge with a company merely to make it "unattractive" as buy out candidate. Monday will certainly be interesting.

Gary, it would be nice if all of us got out at 51 and buy back for 44. :-) As a long term holder I didn't worry much about the drop. We'll see ASND back to 50's in no time. Personally I don't think ASND management teams are stupid. They have draw the plan to follow through. Think about it carefully if the rumor is true, temporary it does hurt the stock a bit because Wall street don't like it, but for the long run, hey it can be a good deal (SRA finance is solid, good company) and who knows, the merger might make ASND more attractive to LU strategy. No body knows ASND's move better than Mr. Mory and his team. Just my cheap thought. Duke

- Ascend jumped into the IP telephony market last month with the announcement of its MultiVoice strategy. The company said it will introduce products that support voice over IP, frame relay and ATM networks. Ascend will also enhance its IP Navigator management product to support an absolute QoS for voice delivered over these types of networks.
