Michael.
The Ali Alladin V chip has had a rough infancy. Such a bad one that even ACER, parent company of ALI (ACER LABS INC.) chose to use the VIA apollo MVP3 chipset instead for its first socket 7 motherboard. Only now, after about 5 revisions is it bug free. That's the reason ABIT (IT5A) and ASUS abandoned plans to make super 7 motherboards. Now, I hear that due to popular demand ABIT is coming out with a super 7 motherboard. I didn't know ASUS was coming out with one, knowing ASUS, it will be first quality.
The AMD-640 chipset was a collaberation with VIA that fell apart. Maybe one reason that when AMD shipped demo systems of the K6-2-333 on introduction they were on Microstar 5169 mobo with an ALi chipset.(Running at 95Mhz bus no less}. Now with the "CE" revision of the MPV3 we see mobos with 95MHz settings and yet another viable speed grade (333) for the K6-2. From a marketing standpoint, the more speed grades the better...and you know the speed advantage of getting the bus speed up on the K6 unlike the P2.

Re: "Anyone heard something from the AMD-640 chipsets ? Or its succesors ?"

Funny, AMD promised that they would be ready for the 100mhz bus K6. As far as I can tell, AMD has stopped talking about them.
