according to your previous post "Ted Streit is a fine man,-he's been working hard on those orphaned mines hasn't he?" Glad to hear that you are a geologist. You would be of tremendous value to this thread if you were a little less emotional, and a little more realistic about oil, gas and coal reserves. As far as the USGS, I know that their studies are looked upon by fellow geologist as gospel. What I said was that I knew of no professional engineers that use their data to make decisions. When it's time to actually put the money up for a project most people feel a little more comfortable with their own research. Tell me eric, as a geologist, would recommend something to a potential client based on USGS surveys? I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but would you, honestly?

Let's clarify another matter while we're at it. I did not at any time say that there was no gas in West Virginia. As a geologist you know that gas is virtually everywhere across the US. The profitability of certain regions make it unrealistic to drill. In addition, you are acting as if Coal Bed Methane is a new thing, well you and I both know that it is not. Companies usually develop and extract CBM in conjunction with deep hole wells. Companies are working to profitably extract CBM alone and some have done a pretty good job at it. Miller, in Huntsville, Tn is a good example. They recently hit a well in Bell County KY. and plan to drill several more over an area of some 40,000 acres.
I'm certainly not trying to rain on your parade eric. My opinions about coal and gas production have nothing to do with weather MTEI will or will not make money. I hope they make a ton of money. I only questioned their press releases that quoted numbers that were unrealistic. As a geologist, especially in WVA,that should have been a red flag. If I were an investor (knowing what I know about coal and gas) those statements that I've referred to would have been enough for me to question the wisdom of investing. A professional company should be a little realistic when projecting future profits. By overstating such things as these, you'll always find yourself behind when the actual work is started and people are asking questions about production. Would you agree with that statement eric? Could you direct me to a link that shows oil production in Lincoln County. Every report that I've seen shows somewhere around 4-6 Million MCF Natural Gas produced in both Raleigh and Lincoln but -0- oil production. allow me to edit that last line a little, I have seen reports that show some oil production, it is usually under 200 barrels per year.

Thanks,

Lonnie
