ALL...Fortune issue dated 8/17/98 has a good article on Cisco- I don't think this has been posted yet. Some interesting figures... Cisco sells 80% of all internet hardware. 57% of its sales are now made online on the www, and their goal is a rise to an astonishing 80% by next year. Says that business to business selling is E-commerce's killer ap. Without this automated selling (and it's associated on line customer support), Cisco would need to hire another 1000 engineers . The savings are $75 million a year, plus $250 million saved by on line transfer of software. The speed and efficiency of this ordering process improves the customer's cost structure also. This system keeps most of Cisco's costs below it's competitors.
Fortune also included CSCO in it's list of top 10 stocks to retire on.
