Jim, Re: It's a moot point because LX/EX boards offer no upgrade path

Oh, really ? How long do you expect to
use your MB+CPU combination before you
want to upgrade ?

I remembered people saying how evil Intel
was by switching to Slot 1 and how great
K6/Cyrix will be because all one needed is
to buy a faster CPU and plug it into their
existing Socket 7 board ?

The reality is, first the old motherboard may
not have the necessary voltage for newer, faster
CPU. Second, to get the benefit of faster speed,
the bus needs to be changed to (66->100).

The net result is if I have an old Socket 7
motherboard, no matter whether I want to
upgrade to K6-2 or PII, it must be MB + CPU.

The whole upgrade path issue is a myth. The only
thing that can extend from one generation to another
is most likely the monitor. Not even RAM, HD. I
sure don't want to put my old 500MB HD in my newly
upgraded machine.

>On pricewatch Super 7 boards list for $84 and up
Have you bought one ?

I don't know about their source but the cheapest
SS7 board in my area is US$110 and 440LX/EX is US$80.
I don't care about upgrade as the next time I upgrade,
it would be 18 months later and by then even 440GX
will be considered outdated.

>If super 7 boards are more, which I doubt, it's likely
>because they are in great demand compared to outdated LX
You can interpret it whatever way you want. I just state
the facts.
