At Coles-Myer's site there is a 9/23/97 press release as follows: Quote: "Coles Myer links with Peapod for home shopping Coles Myer Ltd., today announced it had signed a letter of intent to purchase the licence for electronic home shopping software, from the US company Peapod, Inc. The letter of intent provides for exclusivity in Australia and New Zealand. It means that Peapod will license Coles Myer to use Peapod's online shopping systems, including its server-based shopping application, together with certain business systems such as fulfillment management, product database administration, customer support, and Peapod's one-to-one content targeting engine. The letter of intent is non-binding, and is subject to the negotiation and execution of a definitive license and support agreement. It is expected that definitive agreements will be finalised later this year. Coles Myer Ltd's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Dennis Eck, said that the purchase of the licence from Peapod would enable Coles Myer to deepen its penetration into the home shopping market in partnership with one of the world leaders of such services. "It provides customers with a reliable, safe and customer-friendly environment from which to shop from their home or office. The service will also better utilise key direct marketing skills we have been developing within the Myer Direct catalogue business, at Liquorland and at Officeworks," Mr Eck said. Peapod, Inc., is the leading interactive, online shopping and delivery service and a provider of targeting advertising, promotion and research services in the US. Peapod currently provides branded grocery services in eight metropolitan markets in the US in partnership with traditional food retailers, and serves more than 50,000 households.
