LL,
thanks.
Feels good to be noted.
Tonight, I had something a little more important than the President.
I wanted to remind everyone how a temporary price reduction can confuse the issue of inflation/deflation.
Right now, we are seeing all time low prices for beef while fresh pork and chicken are only slightly(if any) higher. The only commodity price increases seen this year have been a slight seasonal adjustment for pork bellies and early slight cotton increases(cotton has moved form .55 to 70+ range & is considered "the commodity play"). I contend that our beef windfall is a chance we should all take to stock up!
One main reason for the low beef prices is the producers of Texas and New Mexico are selling off their herds to avoid buying feed. Hay prices in those areas is at a five year high.
They are even selling off older breeding stock!
When this summer's supplies are gone, We could well see far higher beef prices.
Texas and New Mexico together have a hand in the production of more than 25% of all U.S. beef.
Very little beef is yet imported!
