Paul, More and more people are buying items that resemble the Gucci and KKlein stuff as they realize the inflated price buys nothing but me,bership in a public herd. Why cannot Gucci sell an invisible item at inflated prices.
Marketing has been the bane of consumers for years and they are getting smarter and buying good cars. No longer are the mercedes and BMW's better quality and longer lasting than US iron.(selecting similar price points) The cachet cars still have that aura, but it fades every year as others gain on them. Which is as it should be.
As it is with Intel. It is quite apparent now that the slot 1 gains nothing but the ability to exclude others marketing wise.

??
Do people not buy Sony TV's when they can get cheap Hyundai and GOldstar
TV's? NO!

Do people not buy Mercedes and BMW's and Acuras and Lexus when cheap
Ford Fiestas are available? NO !

Do people not buy Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren branded products when they can
buy cheaper stuff at K-Mart - NO !
?? You are saying they are not buying Sony, Mercedes, Calvin Klein
NO!!?

In fact people are deserting many of those old brands for new brands as they seel to join assorted herds, like the Walmart herd, Lands end herd, Sams club herd. Ever notive the way we are losing choice as we become prey to mass marketed but cheap clothes? Lots of troubles in the elite small shops, they are fighting back with nichemanship, like AMD fights back in the game arena,
