Ibexx and thread friends, *** half-OT ***

I still have some concerns about INTC strategic current dismay, and we all know here how deeply RMBS success is hooked to a successful INTC.

INTC seems IMO to have missed some key technological breakthroughs :

- SOI (Silicon On Insulator) allows low consumption ICs.
Excerpt from WSJ :
"The breakthrough, which the company planned to announce Monday,
could make chips that operate at 1,000 megahertz, or two-and-a-half
times faster than the fastest Intel Corp. Pentium chip. IBM believes it has at least a year's lead over rivals and plans to start using the technique by the end of next year, both for chips used in its own computers as well as those it makes for other companies.

The process, known as "silicon-on-insulator," or SOI, acts as a sheath for the millions of transistors on a chip, reducing current leaks
that often act as a drag on the chip's performance and allowing the transistors to operate much faster. IBM researchers say the
chips, when designed for mobile computers and cell phones, would use about one-third of the electricity they normally consume.

Though the technique has been used as a niche technology in satellites and missiles, until now it has been too expensive for low-cost
computer chips. IBM is expected to say it can produce these new chips for about 10% more than conventional chips, a relatively small
premium compared with the promised improvements. The company has about 30 patents on the technique and believes others couldn't duplicate it without paying IBM royalties."

- SiGe (Silicon - Germanium) : mastered by IBM - speed.

- copper - speed again. Another bandwagon missed by INTC research

- 0.18 micron technology : is INTC on schedule ? or sub-contracting to japanese companies ?

I think I remember that RMBS and IBM have close relationships. Is INTC still an "heritage stock" ?? Is there still a pilot aboard ?

Just my one cent,

MiB

Ibexx & Thread,

The article doesn't talk about RMBS, but these are the first HDTV sets to ship, and they've got RMBS inside:
