There are political threads on SI where such discussion would be better suited and your interpretation of others' opinions discussed.

Thanks Drew, but the idle flattery putting New Zealand as the most pure of the 41 countries listed shows only how bad things are elsewhere.

We have:
Judges convicted of making false expenses claims
The Auditor General jailed for embezzlement
The Sports Foundation Director nicking off with the money
Members of Parliament with big expenses
Doctors making false claims on public money
Lawyers using client funds, then losing it
Public funds handed out on a racist basis
Huge government sector spending on social programs which actually increase community problems rather than solve them.
Government waste all over the place
Public money used to prop up pals of government [BNZ, NZ Refining, Wine Industry, Symphony Orchestra and many others]
Crime in general coming out our ears

Admittedly bribery and palm greasing are relatively minor, but don't come looking for saints here.

India will no doubt replace the Hyundai agency and I guess it won't take too long. In NZ where Hyundai also has the agency, there will definitely be no government bribery needed and plenty of partners will be interested in forming the necessary agreements. NZ is very deregulated in telecoms and we love cellphones and new gadgets.

Being thinly populated, rural and ocean going, as well as loving travelling, I'm sure Globalstar will sell well here. The recession, which is affecting NZ since we have a big trading relationship with Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, China, will reduce the number of those who will buy the service.

On Globalstar position location: "By combining conventional GPS receivers with Globalstar handsets, gateways and other reference stations, LINCSS will provide a dramatic improvement over the 20 meters that may ultimately be available to the market from GPS alone."

So, it seems we will be able to park our boats and land our planes if not stir our tea using Globalstar. Being lost at sea or in a forest or broken down in a car will no longer be a problem for search and rescue people. Good hunting to find that reference so quickly.

Thanks Snake!
