IBM Laptop drive Vibration

(random(RMS)) 0.67 G (5 to 500 Hz)
(Swept sine) 1 G 0-P (5 to 500 Hz)

Iomega Vapor! - 1G sine (5 to 17hz)

*You have to compare the IBM 1G swept sine wave specs since Iomega tested with a sine wave. However, once again, Iomega fails to test their products up to industry norms- that is, up to a 500 Hz wavelength. Iomega only tests Vapor! from 5 to 17 Hz? This is a VERY narrow region (and very low energy), and not copmparable to IBM's specs for its laptop drive.

>>I have no expertise in this area, so won't comment, except that the numbers for both products are comparable. <sarcasm><<

Gottfried, I'm sure that someone as sarcastic as you can realize that there is a world of difference between the needs of a laptop drive, and a Vapor! drive. Besides, the numbers for both products are NOT comparable for reasons stated above. The Vapor! drive is supposed to be able to withstand the rigors that normal small devices go through. Laptop computers are generally just that- placed on laps, desks, or other relatively stationary places. And they are more often than not treated with great care.

PDA's, Digital Cameras, and other cheaper, smaller devices that Vapor! is intended for are generally abused far more than a full fledged laptop. You know this.

Vapor! WAS supposed to be able to work in everything from digital cameras to milkshake blenders<sarcasm>. With these newly published specs, it might make an adequate laptop drive (if it were tested to industry norms first, but it isn't)- but not a mulitpurpose portable drive meant to be jostled around on a beach, or in a GPS navigator while hiking in the Badlands. Vapor! is just plain DOA.

These new specs for Vapor! call for a VERY tame and controlled portable environment in order to work. I eagerly await an outside lab's analysis of the Vapor! drive's real specifications as compared to industry norms.

Iomega refuses to do this. It seems Iomega tries very hard to keep Vapor!'s specs hidden. I wonder why?

GM, would you throw your camera around so hard or any other electronic device? I don't think so. But I guess some idiot would say anything and make a fool of himself just because he hates iomega. If clik! is included in a camera you can bet that the camera manufacturer will conduct intensive tests before including it.
