To the "thread" for generic information: TIANJIN, August 4 (Asia Pulse via COMTEX) -- The number of mobile phone users in China has grown to more than 18 million since the first one appeared in the country in the late 1980s. This means that the demand for mobile phones in China is growing faster than that for other household appliances like telephones, televisions and refrigerators. It took 100 years for the country to have 10 million telephones for family use, 20 years to have 10 million televisions in use, and 30 years before it had 10 million refrigerators. The faster-mushrooming mobile phone number in China is attributed partially to the participation of overseas investors, the top three of which are the US's Motorola, Sweden's Ericsson, and Finland's Nokia. Motorola is the number one in China's mobile phone market and leads its competitors in both manufacturing and marketing with nearly a third of the market and after-sale service outlets throughout the country. For a long time, China's telecom industry gave priority to the development of telephones, first in the workplace, then in urban homes, and finally in rural areas. Thanks to an increasing income and the advance of economic reforms, China has seen a huge rise in the use of telephones this decade. By the end of this May, some 80 million telephones had been installed in the country, eight times the figure seven years ago. The number of China's mobile phone users is expected to peak at 600 million, based on an estimate of the country's population peak at a maximum 1.5 billion in the middle of the next century. _________________________________________ Have a good day.
