The beach, at least one respected analyst Paul Johnson is thinking with head and says "it makes perfect sense".
This is the perfect opportunity to seperate the so so analysts and good analysts. Whoever calls this one right knows the industry better than other. Don't forget they are like CATTLE, one guy thinks it is right everybody reiterates and nod their heads. The first one gets the credit for calling it right.

I think Paul J. of BAC/RS has called it right in the past. He was bullish when ASND was in 20s, saying that they are building the next generation TELCO networks and are winning major contracts with Big TELCOs, in his research he mentioned several wins that were announced later. Here is what paul said about STRATUS deal.
Paul Johnson, technology
analyst at BancAmerica
Robertson Stephens, told The
San Jose Mercury News that
Ascend likes Stratus because it
has expertise in making
equipment to carry telephone
conversations over networks
based on Internet technology.
Ascend has long said it wants
to get into that market.
"It makes perfect sense.
Ascend has made itself very
clear they want to be more of a
player," he said.

Most brokerage houses have not called anything yet, since it is not official, they will make their call after the annoncment. The price action depends what type of spin most brokerage houses put after the conferance call with analysts. That is where Mory has to sell his idea to the "sell side ANALysts who need spoon feeding because they can think with their heads." We hope two or three top brokerage houses like the deal.

As for the last friday's action. I think we got rid of the last batch of "wimps" out of the stock who do n't belong in ASND and gave great opportunity for the new ones and we got rid of the sheep, (those who sell it just because it went down that is fear).

I think Smart money did not sell. Whoever takes action without proper analysis of the fact is not smart in my opinion.
