Why University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill recommends IBM PCs.

>In addition to the terms in UNC-CH's request for proposal,
IBM will provide:

a $1 million grant for a research project involving the
university and IBM that will examine the impact of the
campuswide computer initiative.

a $1 million grant for computing equipment that will be
awarded to faculty, students and staff to encourage the
creative use of technology in the curriculum.

a $500,000 grant to purchase hardware for UNC-CH's
information technology staff to support training and
development needs associated with the Carolina Computing
Initiative.

support for a faculty member to take an annual sabbatical at
IBM's Research Triangle Park's facility;

support for at least 10 student interns to work each summer
in the RTP facility.<

Essentially, UNC is taking 2.5 million in walking-around money to coerce freshmen into buying something they wouldn't have otherwise.

Sleazy.
