I agree on Fastenal. It is on my "Buffett watch" list, but
I'm worried about it's relatively short history (short in
Buffett terms, that is). So I'm waiting on it.

Anyone looking at Fair Isaac? This looks to me like a Buffet
company with Buffett qualities. It's been on my list for 7 mos now,
but I'm waiting for a Buffett-like price/return estimate.

Jurgis,

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I do use a mechanical screen, but as you mention the screen does not capture whether the business is good or bad. Of all of those on the list I'm only invested in ORCL, and of those remaining I like CDWC.

RE CDWC: I think there may be some barriers to entry in the direct retail business, especially given the thin margins but sizeable economies of scale. It seems to me you'll have to be big to compete on this playing field.

The screen, however, should capture quantitative qualities Buffett looks for in his companies.

The screen captures the following:

1. Book Value/shr increasing at least 13% over every 2 yr period in last 6 yrs.

2. 12mm ROE 15% or greater, ROE for 3 most recent fiscal years of 12% or better every year.

3. LTD/Capital <= Industry - OR - LTD/Equity <=40%

4. EPS increasing at least 13% for any 2 yr period in past 5 yrs.

5. Exclude financial sector.

Thanks again for the input.

Shane

jugis:

I recently saw Warren Buffet sitting in the front row of
Level Three Communication's shareholder meeting in Omaha July 14th.
( I was sitting in the top balcony, last row, I might add.)
In your opinion in this a type of stock that shows up on
"buffet's radar screen" ? And if so, could you comment. Much obliged.
