They haven't announced a split yet. They could announce one with earnings (Aug 18) and people are either expecting a 2:1 or a 3:1 since the number of shares authorized would allow for upto a 3:1 split.

I would prefer a 2:1 and have more splits rather than a 3:1 and fewer splits. I would also prefer that Dell wait until later to give the split when the market calms down. I recall Dell going from 98 to 170 in 1997 from the announcement till the split while it only went from 112 to somewhere around 134 in the spring when the market was in turmoil (and 9 of those points came the day after the announcement). Every time Dell tried to go up in the spring, a warning came out and pushed it back down -- INTC, CPQ. We will hit warnings season again before Dell is able to split. I would just rather wait when we can have more runup. Opinions?

By the way, Clinton testifies the 17th and Greenspan's committee meets the 18th. We are really going to be in rocky times. How much runup will we have prior to earnings with all of this taking place?
