As of now, you have to hold. If the contest were going to work I think that you would have to declare your out date up front. Granted, there are limitations doing it this way but the point is to pick stocks that will survive the time frame which ever way you go....

Rule #2. We have good rules, IMHO. I like them the way they are, but if you want to declare your exit point before Wednesday at midnight EST, that's fine with me.

Here is the deal. Nobody is going to "oversee" this contest. We want to keep the rules really simple. The idea here was that FG and I would stop hassling each other and play a stock picking game instead. I'm more interested in getting people to calm down for the next month than I am in who wins the game. Of course, if some bozo goes broke on paper in the contest, that will be good too (as long as it isn't me).

Pick 5 stocks, long or short, and see how you do. I'd like to see every hotshot on SI get in on this, because some of them are bound to get smoked, and then we can all flame them (as long as it isn't me).

BAWK!!

LATEST RULES REVISION

I will create the thread for the contest tomorrow. Right now, we are looking for any suggestions for tweaking the rules so they are as clear as possible. (Not more complex, more clear).

'SI International Open'

Contest is open to anyone on SI. We don't have a prize for the winner yet, think of something. Losers get to be publicly humiliated for the next 2 or 3 years.

1. Pick 5 stocks, (not 1,2,3 or 4) currently trading on the NYSE, ASE, NASDAQ, or OTC BB. TSE and VSE OK for all the hosers, but you have to figure the entry and exit in U.S. funds as of entry and exit dates, so no arbitrage hi-jinx)

Stocks only, no options, etc. Everyone starts with $100,000 U.S., all calculations are U.S. dollars. The money is split up equally, 20 grand per stock. No stocks that are trading under 10 cents. Entries are due before midnight EST Wednesday August 5. Prices are as of the close Wednesday, August 5, at 4:O0 p.m. On Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 4:00 p.m., we determine the winner, based on closing prices that day. If your stock is halted at the close on September 1, you get a zero for that stock. Most money made off the original $100,000 is the winner. Fractional shares (to 2 decimal points) for the 20 grand.

Example: you pick Hollywood Global Internet Casino Oil and Gas at .88 per share. .88 divided into 20 grand = 22,727.27 shares, that's how many shares you have at the start. When it closes on Sept. 1, (say at .02 for example) you have 22,727.27 x .02 = $454.55. Or, if it closes at 6 1/2, you have $147,727.25 for that stock.

2. Entry is closing price Wednesday August 5, exit is closing price Tuesday Sept. 1. No in or out between these dates, with the following exception: if you post your exit date along with your entry, you can take that exit price (the close on the date you post).

Long or short; you can short OTC BB stocks for this contest.

3. Participants agree to refrain from antagonistic posts and personal attacks on other participants [aka "flames"] on the OTC BB stock threads during the contest. Flame away on other threads if you wish, but the stock threads are off limits for flames. If a contest participant posts a flame to another participant on a BB stock thread, and any 3 other people agree it is a flame, that person is eliminated from the contest. If there is an argument about this rule, Gump and Chicken override and make the final decision.

Also, you will be picked on and flamed forever if you break this rule, so don't enter if you plan on breaking this rule.

4. Factual information, good or bad, posted without rancor, is not a flame. Opinions about a stock, posted without rancor towards another individual, are not flames.

5. Posts which contain negative personal opinions about another participant, sarcasm, satire, witty quips, and the rest of that stuff, are open to judgement as flames.

6. No penalty for spelling and grammar goofs, but retorts with obvious satirical intention may be considered to be flames.
