Barnes and Noble is the online bookstore of choice at MSNBC.
Don't know if this was mentioned, but I was just cruising the
msnbc.com site, and notice that the book reviews over
there point to barnesandnoble.com. Looks like B&N
isn't shy about spending ad dollars to win back some market share.

The payment structures are different, B & N says:

Earn up to 7% on books and magazines, up to 3% on software. There's no limit to how much you can earn, and every single product we sell qualifies for commissions -- no exceptions! The more you sell, the more you earn.

and Amazon.com says:

Amazon.com pays you 15 percent on more than 400,000 titles and 5 percent on more than 1.1 million additional in-print titles, CDs, other products.

As you can see, both of them have "up to ..." clauses. Without knowing the details, it is difficult to know who pays better.

B&N has an impressive list of affiliates given its late start:
