Bombardier Global Express Certified

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--Bombardier Aerospace announced today that the
ultra long-range Bombardier Global Express business jet was
awarded type certification by Transport Canada on July 31,
heralding the start of a new era in business aviation.

"This is a historic moment for both Bombardier and the entire
business aviation community," stated John Holding, executive vice-
president, engineering and product development, Bombardier
Aerospace. "We are delighted to receive certification from
Transport Canada.

"The world's most advanced corporate jet is now ready to begin
customer deliveries following the successful completion of the
most stringent and comprehensive of certification programs," Mr.
Holding added. "The fact that this has been accomplished in
accordance with a schedule established five years ago is a tribute
to the skill, dedication and hard work of all Bombardier employees
and our partners involved in this visionary aircraft program."

The Global Express program, officially launched December 1993,
involves nine leading aerospace companies from six countries who
entered into risk-sharing agreements with Bombardier. This
pioneering concept for aircraft development recently earned
Bombardier Aerospace the prestigious ICAS-Von Karman Award for
International Co-Operation in Aeronautics from the International
Council of Aeronautical Sciences.

Performance guarantees achieved

Transport Canada granted the Global Express type certification
following flight and ground testing programs conducted in full
cooperation with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
and the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA).

The program, which began following first flight in October 1996,
involved four flight test aircraft plus two full-sized static test
articles, one for static testing and one for damage tolerance and
fatigue testing.

"The aircraft's performance has met our objectives and has shown
that the Global Express meets the highest standards in business
aviation without any compromises," said Mr. Holding. These are
Canadian Airworthiness Manual Chapter 525, at Change 6 and U.S.
FAR Part 25 (up to Amendments 25-97) and European JAR Part 25
Change 14 including OP 96/1.

Since the Global Express certification program was carried out
concurrently with Transport Canada, the FAA and JAA, type
certificates from these two latter agencies are expected to be
obtained shortly.

Advanced design provides unique capabilities

Designed from a clean sheet of paper, the Global Express is the
only aircraft intended specifically to meet the changing transport
needs of corporate and government leaders in the 21st century. It
offers the longest non-stop range in corporate aviation, flying
eight passengers and a four-person crew 6,500 nautical miles
(12,038 km) non-stop and has a top cruise speed that reaches
nearly the speed of sound (Mach .88).

Due to breakthrough wing design, the Global Express can land on
the shortest runways of any available or planned large business
jet, requiring a landing distance of just 2,668 feet (813 m). The
certificated Global Express aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight
of 93,500 lbs (42,411 kg).

It also offers the largest and most productive cabin of any true
corporate aircraft, with a total length of 48 feet 4 inches (14.72
m) and width of 8 feet 2 inches (2.49 m).

"The Global Express is designed to surpass the comfort
requirements of ultra long-range travel, bringing passengers to
their destination refreshed and ready to work," remarked Michael
Graff, president, Bombardier Aerospace, Business Aircraft. Its
cabin, for example, can be divided into three sections and used as
a board room, fully equipped office or even a comfortable living
space. Its spacious design allows up to 19 passengers to work,
eat and relax in total comfort.

The Global Express is also the only business aircraft designed
with the intent of meeting ETOPS (extended twin engine operations)
requirements for long, over-water flights. Its design,
encompassing independent electrical and hydraulics systems with
multiple power sources, extends the mission flexibility and
reliability of the aircraft.

Positive market reception

The Global Express is attracting strong interest because of its
numerous performance and operating cost advantages over competing
aircraft in this category. To date, Bombardier Aerospace has
received 80 firm orders for the aircraft, with a 50-50 split
between U.S. and international markets. Among its first customers
are major international corporations, government leaders and some
of the world's most successful entrepreneurs.

It is also attracting strong interest for fractional ownership
customers through Bombardier's Flexjet program based in Dallas,
Texas.

Eleven Global Express aircraft are currently undergoing
modifications including interior outfitting at Bombardier
facilities in Toronto and Montreal. Interior specifications have
been established for 27 aircraft and first deliveries of completed
aircraft are expected to begin in December.

A Global Express business jet will make its debut as a
certificated aircraft at the Farnborough International Air Show in
England this September before embarking on a world tour.
