The leverage in the model is awesome. Hardly anyone knows who Amazon is at this point. They have only 3 million customers. That's nothing; there are some 60 million Internet users already. That's why they've decided on this spending spree. They know they have a chance to pick most of the low-hanging fruit before competition gets serious, and that leveraging these new customers will have a profound compounding effect on their revenues down the road.

It's a smart decision. They know from their own business trends it's a smart decision. They know they can afford it, and that's why the stock is acting well in the face of growing quarterly loss estimates.
