Warner/Avalon Brings Goodwill Games to a Close Business Wire - August 03, 1998 08:25 NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--August 3, 1998--Two weeks of spirited competition among the best athletes in the world and non-stop, top-name entertainment ended last night as the 1998 Goodwill Games came to an incredible close. Warner/Avalon, a TBA Entertainment and Time Warner joint venture, produced the dynamic, two-hour Goodwill Games Closing Ceremony at Battery City Park in New York City that highlighted exciting moments from the preceding weeks of competition. The Goodwill Games Closing Ceremony included live performances from the Broadway casts of the Sound of Music and Chicago, along with Trisha Yearwood, Deborah Gibson, Louis Walden, Broadway Kids with Boys and Girls Clubs, Kimberly Scott and the Umoja Youth Project and the Goodwill Games Dancers. Additional highlights from the show included remarks by Hillary Clinton, Geraldine Ferraro, along with Gerald Levin, Chairman of Time Warner Inc., and R.E. "Ted" Turner, Vice Chairman of Time Warner and founder of the Goodwill Games, along with a spectacular pyrotechnic display over the New York harbor. Warner/Avalon also produced the Goodwill Games Opening Celebration that was televised live on the TBS Superstation on July 18. That show likewise featured a stellar line-up of talent including Ray Charles, Hootie and the Blowfish, Brandy, Marc Cohn, BeBe and CeCe Winans, All-4-One and a 70-piece orchestra led by renowned Broadway composer, Frank Wildhorn.
