LONGS: This is BRILLIANT! Whoever has the most installed base of SS7 wins!

SS7 is the brains of the PSTN (public switched telephone network). This is the stuff that will make the Internet act just like the PSTN .
*Without SS7* the Internet is just a dumb pipe and it will NEVER aspire to be all things telecom.

The remote access provider with the largest installed base of SS7 will rule the landscape. ASND management is brilliant! .

ASND now has SS7 installed base to 7 RBOC's and three
IXC's not to mention a slew of upstart CLEC's. This group of carriers WANTS remote access with SS7 because of switch blocking concerns. Furthermore, SS7 allows them to use IP protocol to mimmick the existing features of the PSTN. Also, SS7 allows ISP's to act like phone companies. !

Step aside Cisco!

One more point: real estate in the telco central office cage is at a premium.
If you can incorporate the functions (SS7 + remote access) into one box you have a big advantage over your competitors . Thin is in.
