Internet-Direct Business Model Keeps iDOT.com at Front of Pack

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- iDOT.com, the first company to sell computers exclusively over the Internet, once
again is on the technology forefront as one of the first companies to ship Toshiba's new Generation III DVD-ROM drive.

The next-generation DVD-ROM drive, announced by Toshiba just last month, is available now with iDOT.com computers,
including iDOT.com's Pro Gamer system. Available via iDOT.com's virtual storefront, idot.com, the DVD-ROM
drive also can be added to any custom-configured system or as an upgrade to other pre-configured systems.

One of the first companies to bring a DVD-ROM drive to market, Toshiba has made several innovations with the Generation
III DVD-ROM drive, enabling higher-speed digital transactions and data transfer rates twice as fast as previous generation
drives.

"iDOT.com's Internet-direct business model allows us to quickly respond to new technology," said Mark Marlow, vice
president of product marketing for iDOT.com. "Our ability to act and react in real-time enables us to be on the cutting edge
and to continue providing the latest technology to our customers."

Toshiba's SD-M1202 Generation III DVD-ROM drive can read virtually all CD- ROM formats, eliminating many of the
compatibility problems of older generation drives. Compared to first generation devices, the new drives can read DVD-ROM
discs up to 4.8 times faster and CD-ROM discs at up to 32x maximum rotational speed. Access time is also improved to an
average 140ms on DVD and 90ms with CD-ROMs. Maximum storage capacities are 4.3GB for single layer/single
sided-discs and 15.9GB for dual layer/double-sided discs. Bundled with all drives from iDOT.com is a PCI hardware
decoder card that decompresses and plays back real time, full motion MPEG-2 video with Dolby AC- 3 audio.

In addition to its Pro Gamer system, iDOT.com also offers PC bundles optimized for college students, businesses and home
users. Available only through the Web, iDOT.com systems are aimed at technologically savvy users and can be built to order
or purchased in pre-set configurations.

Based in Austin, iDOT.com is the first PC company built for the Web. It is backed by a $3.5-million private venture fund. The
management team includes former executives from Motorola, Power Computing, Dell, CompuAdd and others.

The iDot DVD-ROM drive with hardware decoder drive adds $195 to the cost of a computer with CD-ROM. The hardware decoder downmixes the Dolby AC-3 sound to 2-channel stereo -- sounds like CUBE?

We've just added the latest Generation 3
DVD-ROM drive from Toshiba to our product
line-up. This drive can read virtually all
CD-ROM formats, eliminating many of the
compatibility problems of older generation
drives. Compared to first generation drives, the
new drives can read DVD-ROM discs up to
4.8 times faster and CD-ROM discs at up to
32x maximum rotational speed. Access time is
also improved to an average 140ms on DVD
and 90ms with CD-ROMs. Maximum storage
capacities are 4.38GB for single layer/single
sided discs and 15.9GB for dual layer/double
sided discs. The drive also has a 100,000 hour
MTBF (mean time between failure) rating.
Bundled with all of our drives is a hardware
decoder card that decompresses and plays
back real time, full motion MPEG-2 video with
Dolby AC-3 audio. Don't be fooled by less
expensive software solutions that drain
horsepower from your processor and provide
lower quality video.
This is the ultimate solution
for high quality video and the soon to be
expanding range of game titles that offer DVD
support (no more switching CD-ROMs,
everything fits on a single DVD-ROM disc)!

Visit the store to configure your system with a
new DVD-ROM drive.
