Darrell, I watched some of the weekend political shows and listened to the reasoning as to why Clinton should/could do a "Checkers Speech" or mea culpa. Nothing will shock me more than to see Clinton admit to anything ......I am convinced that he will try to ride the polls even into an impeachment hearing. He's a lame duck, he has nothing to lose. Except of course his "legacy", but most would conclude that it has already been sufficiently trashed such that any "admission" on his part will only serve to erase all doubt. What the last 7 months have taught the Clinton WH is that they should leave open to "interpretation" the facts of the Lewinsky matter and the public aversion to the topic will eventually cause it to fade off the radar screen. I concluded in listening to Orrin Hatch tell the president that the congress and the people were "forgiving" that he was setting the stage for the impending Clinton stonewall, letting the Republican leadership "take the high" road ("see we offered to work with you Mr. President") in an effort to set the stage for impeachment hearings. They have rightly concluded that the public will not stomach impeachment hearings for a "sex" lie. He's getting his chance to set the record straight, and I'm totally convinced that reason will not prevail with this president and he will again lie. What remains to be seen is does Congress have the guts to act on principle and ignore the "polls" or give Clinton a pass. I'm not convinced either way, but will argue that if impeachment hearings are not scheduled if overwhelming evidence that the president perjured himself, twice, once in a civil matter and secondly in a federal criminal investigation, is produced, term limits should be resurrected for serious consideration. bp
