Jim-

Since the Naz's plunge began 2 1/2 weeks ago or so, on a percentage basis Dell and the Naz are down around the same (8.2%) from their highs.....This is not good news for your short.....Historically, Dell outpaces the Naz during 5,10,15% "corrections" on the downside...

During the next few weeks, Dell will rise as a result of the good earnings report and the split announcement...this should come before earnings, but because of the weak Naz (and maybe Clinton testimony) it is possible that the effect will be delayed until closer to earnings, and shortly thereafter...Either way, this points to you covering your short immediately.

As far as IBM being in a better (financial) position to buy back their stock...Eh? They had upped their LTD significantly (before the buyback announcement)...Explain where you are coming from?

CSCO earnings..

I believe the street will care a great deal about CSCO's report. As you can see from IBM's recent performance, good news can be rewarded hansomely even in this environment.

i would hold through expecting strong #'s and a split. Good luck!!

re:CSCO short

That might be a good play. If CSCO acts like LU did, it should fall. But then again, if CSCO doesn't fall as LU did, I would say are the correction we are in is about to be over...
