Sorry Charlie, it is you who does not grasp the situation. Suppose you knew about some natural disaster 18 months ahead of its occurrence and that the magnitude is much greater than normally expected disasters for actuarial purposes. Would you invest in one of the insurance companies? Rational investors would not. They would more likely invest in building supplies, emergency relief activities, etc.

All those Fortune 500 companies you mention are intent on protecting themselves for post Y2K life. I dare say most will do so. Those who are more efficient at it than their competitors may be able to gain an edge in their market. Finding that edge would be a good hint as to where to invest your money. Tava on the other hand has a sucky balance sheet and will likely enter a death spiral culminating in a big splat when they lose all their assets to Sirrom. The big hope here is to postpone the fireworks until after Y2K.

On the other hand, if you are a trader you should have a ball as this one should be quite volatile for a year or two. I suggest sell high and buy low or vice versa if you are of that bent.
