"The UAWG (Universal ADSL Working Group) initiative to develop a
splitterless ADSL specification will slow ADSL deployment in 1998 but accelerate it in 1999 and beyond."

And

"Most of this expansion will be generated by increasing demand for
narrowband access technologies due to continued new subscriber growth, second line growth, and deployments of new services."

Ken,
Nice link. As usual, makes me believe the xDSL upgrades are a long way off. The article fails to mention they have been working on DSL for at least seven years.

Now what's this (excerpt above)? Yet another excuse in the string of seven years of excuses for ILECs not to deploy xDSL technologies? Just when we had all our discussions on how the "splitter" works at the CO, along comes a, "splitterless" solution. Does anybody know what this is about? Why would a ILEC not want to split off the voice and data signals. I have a feeling this has something to do with being able to milk the copper twisted pair for a few more years. Can anyone explain, "splitterless?"

And

I'm getting rid of one of my extra phone lines because, of my cable modem, I don't need the extra line anymore. This is the only thing that will force the telcos to upgrade. Millions of customers doing what I'll be doing.
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)
