Rational Announces Rational Apex Ada 2.0 For Windows New Apex Programming Environment Simplifies Multi-Platform, Multi-Language Development August 4, 1998 08:03 AM CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational(R) Software RATL today announced Rational Apex(R) Ada 2.0 for Windows, the latest release of its integrated programming environment, which features additional Ada 95 support and validation, new capabilities for component-based development, and improved support for large project configuration. "Apex is the difference between success and failure for developers, designers and system architects," said Pamela Roussos, vice president of product marketing for Rational's Visual Programming business unit. "This unique programming environment gives them the flexibility, control and scalability necessary to effectively build and manage multi-platform, multi-language projects." Rational Apex Ada 2.0 for Windows Rational Apex is an integrated, team-oriented programming environment that provides architectural control and greatly simplifies the process of building and managing Ada and mixed language applications. Rational Apex offers a consistent development paradigm and target environment across multiple hosts and targets, and is highly scalable, supporting projects with millions of lines of code as well as smaller projects. New features for Rational Apex Ada 2.0 for Windows include: * ACVC 2.1 validation of the Ada 95 compiler for the core language and Annexes C (Systems Programming) and G (Numerics) ? ensures that Apex NT is conformant with the latest validation test suite, and enables developers to utilize the full breadth of Ada 95 in the design and implementation of their Ada applications. * Support for Claw bindings gives developers the ability to program Win32 GUI applications at a higher level of abstraction, resulting in reduced development time and code that is more reliable and easy to maintain. * Improved Ada 95 DLL support allows developers, designers and system architects the flexibility to design and implement a modular, component-based application architecture which simplifies the development process. * More flexible program library support for drive letters and Universal Naming Convention (UNC) in pathnames, makes it easier for programmers to configure large applications in development environments with file servers. "Rational Apex Ada helps us reduce the risk of developing complex applications across multiple platforms," said David Funk, manager software design support at Rockwell Collins, Inc. "Working within the Apex programming environments gives us greater development control over our Ada 95 and Ada 83 applications and improves the quality of our software." Pricing and Availability Rational Apex Ada 2.0 for Windows NT will be available August 7th at a suggested North American list price of $9,500 per license (includes a license of UNIX Summit/CM configuration management tool) or $4,900 per license (without configuration management tools). Minimum systems requirements are a Pentium processor with 133MHz, 64MB RAM and a 1GB hard drive and Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack. R.R. Software, creator of the Claw bindings, will provide an Apex-specific version of the bindings to Apex Ada NT customers at a reduced price. Rational Apex Ada 2.0 is integrated with the following Rational tools available for Windows: ClearCase(R) NT, for multi-platform software configuration (SCM), ClearQuest(TM) for change request management, RequisitePro(TM) for requirements management, and Rational Rose(R) 98 for visual modeling.
