<<What would IBM (or MSFT - if it wasn't a anti- trust issue) pay for that?>>

We would all be a lot richer if it were not for MSFTs anti-trust scrutiny. Bill would pay a super - rich premium to absorb NOVL.

For one thing, they've embarrassed him. They not only built a robust directory (that is shipping) for their network operating system before he could build one for his, they also built a directory for HIS network operating system before he could do it himself. Bill has certainly outmarketed them so far and he has the most money, but I suspect, as someone who perceives himself as a technical icon and pacesetter, he feels he has been humiliated by NOVL, especially in the eyes of really smart technical people. I do think this situation has been the driver behind the recent realignment at MSFT.

Second, I think he would pay a whopping premium to own Novell NOS source code regardless of NDS. But it can't happen, it won't happen.

I do feel concern when I read of "talks" between Bill and Eric. I just hope Eric has read his history books and treads very carefully.
