things he did wrong:
* buying before researching?

That can be justified but research pretty fast after your purchase.

* buying because of SI posts?

I get ideas from SI. I see what other stocks people who post on threads of my stock hold (ie where they also post) and then investigate those.

* no trading plan
* no exits
* not buying near supports

I made most of the above mistakes recently buying Personell Group of America. However, I am already out at 19.125 after buying at 21.5 If a stock dips right after I buy I get out fast to claim a tax loss. This is always a good idea. Though in the US you can't get in as fast again as I can in Aus. and the tax deduction isn't as big.

* selling out to chase something bigger.

??
* using emergency funds to trade

I didn't even buy a mutual fund till I had around $10000 in the bank.

* 100% into the stock

See my last post.

* not using TA ;)

Well not everyone believes in it and if you have poor TA I guess it could lose you money.
