<< I have traded this stock several time with success getting out the last
time at 20 on an up, BUT lest you think that I am a genius let me point
out a stock that I bought at the bottom for a sure thing, VVUS. I bought
at 11, 9.5, 7.5 and 7.75 on the upswing really thinking I was brilliant
but look at it now. ATML is now reminding me very much of that stock
and I would be very carefull about catching the falling knife. PS I sold
that other POS for 6 13/16 and doubt that my wife will soon let me
forget:((>>

Don't be too harsh on yourself, you are human after all
(okay, you are semi-God)
I only have $7,000 more to lose on this dude, and my suffering
will be over ...

I had a similar experience with Informix last year; I stuck with it far too long and ended up loosing a bunch of money on it. I too have been trading Atmel for several years successfully and that's why I'm really shocked to see it under $10. I still believe in this company and I am going to stick with it for the long term. I believe we may look back on this time as one of the great buying opportunities in semiconductor and semiconductor equipment equipment stocks. I have decided to hitch my wagon to Atmel as I believe it is one of the most undervalued semiconductor stocks with a good management team that is doing the right things under very difficult conditions to assure the future success of the company. The Temic acquisition and Atmel's glut of new product announcements should pay dividends down the road. In the short term the large debt Atmel has accrued was probably a necessary gamble that the company had to take in order to reduce its dependence on flash and EPROM memory. Acquisitions and the research and development necessary to introduce so many new products doesn't come cheap. However the big question is where will the bottom be on this stock; I've already added shares at 12 5/8 and 11 each time thinking it was at or near the bottom and each time its gone lower.
