Judy, I think that AMAT has some technology niches where they both lead and dominate, but the same is not true of Novellus. It is a commodity equipment producer that requires huge demand to be able to earn solid profit margins. That turns me off unless it is dirt cheap, and it hasn't been dirt cheap since 1991.

I only have a third in CPQ, recently purchased, and in GTW, with a third recently sold. I have a 2/3s position in IBM.

I don't really have a timetable on the trades. It is more of a price to time table. Since I am swinging for homeruns, I rarely cut losses except in the expiration month. And I try to take profits after a quadruple to keep my investment a fraction of the bulk of my 90/10 portfolio. But, if I get a quadruple, I will often roll down and out on puts, or up and out on calls if I still feel the same way about the stock.
