Gene,>>>so the investor has to figure out how to get the info for himself. And as for them not lying, I agree. But I also don't think they are providing meaningful long term guidance. <<<

My whole point is that Intel is a $25B a year company and they have nothing much better to do than to understand their market, forecast demand, and plan production according to their sales and marketing program. Investors and analysts have to rely on the guidance that the company provides.

Of course, even with all their resources they may not get it right. There have been times when their guidance has been fuzzy and there has been times when it was completely wrong.

My sense however, is that Craig Barrett is a much more disciplined manager than Andy Grove and his guidance will be more accurate and cause less confusion. But, I think we will need to give him a little bit more time to gain full control of this part of his job.

And, of course, what happened in 1994 and 1995 and the explosion of the Internet was something that no one forecasted and no one really understands to this day.

To forecast based on the growth that occurred in 1995 and 1996 is of course quite foolish - and that is exactly what a lot of people did. That rate was of course not sustainable. We will now have to determine and accept a more normal growth rate.

Regards,

Mary
