Intelect Communications Announces Agreement with Gateway 2000 Major Accounts Inc.

Gateway's Custom Integration Service to manufacture Destination and E-Series product lines enabled with LANscapeTM full-motion, IP-based videcommunications

Richardson, Texas (August 7, 1998) -- Intelect Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ICOM), a leading provider of products and services to seamlessly integrate voice, data and video technologies, today announced that its LANscapeTM video communications product will be available for pre-installation as a "plug-and-play" option on personal computers from Gateway 2000 (NYSE: GTW), a global leader in the direct marketing of PCs to individual and commercial customers. LANscape is now available as a turnkey desktop multimedia solution through an agreement between Gateway 2000 Major Accounts Inc. and Intelect's business unit, Intelect Visual Communications.

"Being able to provide LANscape as an elegant "plug-and-play", network ready option pre-installed by Gateway will significantly increase recognition for the superior quality and value of our multimedia products in a global multi-billion dollar market," said Keith Smith, vice president and general manager of Intelect Visual Communications. "This "plug-and-play" option is in strong demand by our distribution network, which has been recently strengthened by Hughes Network Systems and FORE Systems."

"One of the most significant aspects of our agreement with Gateway is that we will be able to provide true PC-based, network-ready multimedia solutions to businesses at prices that are also affordable for many individuals. We will have access to a much broader market than in the past, and our advanced LANscape video technology will provide enterprise customers; whether corporate, government, educational or medical institutions, the ability to use multimedia to improve communications within its organization," Smith continued.

Using the Internet standard (IP) as its transmission protocol, LANscape is the only video communications product to offer full-motion video over existing LAN/WAN networks and provide 3-way videoconferencing without an expensive Multi-Conferencing Unit (MCU). LANscape also supports IP multicasting for simultaneous distribution of video communications, either real-time or pre-recorded, across entire networks. These features, along with LANscape's ability to provide individually adjustable windows and VCR record and playback controls, make it a complete multimedia video network solution.

"Our vision has been to develop a technology that will enable our customers to utilize video anytime, anywhere at better than business quality. LANscape is making that vision a reality. LANscape is unique in the marketplace because it is the only product that delivers videoconferencing, video broadcast and video-on-demand to the desktop all in one application," Smith continued. "LANscape is a tool that makes on-demand global person-to-person communications a reality. It allows users to easily share information, collaborate "live", and facilitate cooperation between people within companies and with clients outside the organization," stated Smith.
