Rhonda, let me put it another way...

If Cashco were selling a product developed using MSFT products that did not meet MSFT standards, that would be a material event.

I could see a novice programmer being excited that big old MSFT actually used their software and perhaps flattered they passed a MSFT "test". The fact is the only reason MSFT has that requirement is because they don't want to just give away CDs and time and effort to help people who are just kicking tires. They want some proof, any proof, that you are serious about developing a MSFT based product.

The fact that Mr. Laffkas has 20 years in the business makes the whole issue even more outlandish. If HP certifies your software is compatible with their printers (and they do have such a program if you are interested), will that merit another press release about being an HP partner?

If you really wanted to be informative, and not misleading, you would have said "Cashco is pleased to announce Microsoft has added Cashco to their mailing list to receive free technical support when developing products using Microsoft technology. To gain approval, Cashco submitted a product that Microsoft was able to confirm was programmed using Microsoft technology and met their minimum design requirements by not deviating from the proscribed 'look and feel' of Windows products." On second thought, if you really didn't want to be misleading you shouldn't have mentioned it at all.

- Jeff
